Canon Vixia HF10

Well we finally realized that we need a camcorder in addition to our DSLR (Canon Rebel XSi). After much research, the final decision is a Canon Vixia HF10. The camcorder will do full 1920×1080 @ 17mbps. The HF10’s big brother, the HF11, is pretty much the same but includes 32GB of internal memory and does 24mbps. The HF10’s little brother, the HF100, is the same but lacks the buit-in memory and only comes in silver. The difference in price just can’t be justified for an extra 16GB of memory and higher bit-rate that doesn’t make a big difference in quality. The camcorder also has a mini hot shoe for accessories like lighting.

I took a quick test shot at Best Buy to see how the video quality was and how the import times from SDHC card would be given it records in AVCHD format. The clip took just about real time to import from SDHC Class 6 card to iMovie. It was recorded at 1920×1080 full HD (FXP+) and imported at 960×540. I added a quick sound clip to spice things up, haha.
